CERTIFICATION
RTCA DO-160 is an international standard designed to determine the environmental resistance of electrical and electronic equipment used in aircraft. This standard is one of the most widely used test documents in the aviation industry and is applied to guarantee the safe, robust, and reliable operation of aircraft systems.
RTCA DO-160 describes tests that simulate the environmental conditions that aircraft equipment may encounter throughout its operational life.
Main test categories:
Temperature and Humidity Tests: High/low temperature, rapid temperature changes, humidity resistance.
Vibration and Shock Tests: Effect of takeoff, landing, turbulence and engine vibrations on the equipment.
Low Pressure (Altitude) Tests: Resistance to low pressure at high altitude. Rain, Ice and Sand Tests: Resistance to environmental factors that may be encountered in the outdoor environment.
Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMI/EMC) Tests: Ability of electronic devices to operate without interfering with each other.
Acoustic Noise and Explosive Atmosphere Tests.
